Frequently Asked Questions
What's the purpose of the satin lining?
Satin is a smooth material that hair can glide over. This results in less friction between your hair and the satin lining.
Satin also keeps the moisture in your hair from seeping out into the wool material. This is especially important if you use heavy oils, butters, and moisturizers on your hair. Let's keep that moisture in your hair and not on your hat!
Finally, for our straw hat, satin keeps your hair from snagging on the straw material and breaking off.
Less friction, more moisture, and less snagging leads to hair that's happier, healthier, and frizz free.
Will your hats fit over my fro, braids, locs, twists, or weave?
Our hats are a one size fits most and are sized up to account for that extra volume that comes with fros, braids, twists, weaves, extensions, etc.
For reference, the average women's hat size in the US is a 57. Our wool hats are a size 59 and our straw hat is a size 61.
So yes, it should fit over your hairstyle!
What size are your hats?
Our wool hats are a size 59 and our straw hat is a size 61. For reference, the average women's hat size in the US is a 57.
Our hats are a one size fits most and are sized up to account for that extra volume that comes with fros, braids, twists, weaves, extensions, etc.
However, if you need a tighter fit, our hats have adjustable inner linings. The adjustable drawstring is satin, not velcro, so it won't pull at your hair. You can size the hats down 3 sizes!

What's the best way to store my hat?
We recommend either storing the hat upside down on its crown (the top part), on a hat stand, or in a hat box.
When storing your hat for long periods of time, keep it out of direct sunlight.
We do not recommend storing the hat flat on its brim for long periods of time. Over time, the weight of the crown (the top part) will change the shape of the brim.
Can I pack your hats for travel?
While our hats are not meant to be squished, they can still be easily packed for travel and will fit in a carry-on suitcase.
When packing your hat, the most important thing is to make sure the crown (the top part) is supported.
We recommend stuffing some of your clothes into the crown. Then put your hat into the suitcase upside down and place clothes around the crown.
The brim of our straw hat, Sunlit Dream, is flexible. The edges of the brim can be bent slightly to fit into a suitcase for a few hours. If you have to bend the brim then be sure to remove the hat from your suitcase as soon as you get to your destination so it can breathe and return to its natural shape.
My hat got squished and dented. Can I reshape it?
Yes, you can reshape it!
Use either a clothing steamer or a pot of boiling water to apply steam to the portion of the hat you want to reshape. Be careful not to burn yourself on the steam.
Once the hat is slightly moist and a little warm, use your hands to pop out any dents and reshape it as you desire. Then, allow the hat to dry completely before wearing it.
How do I put on the hat bands?
Hat bands are available to purchase with your hat and are a great way to add some flair to your style.
The 18k Gold Twist hat band simply needs to be looped over the crown of the hat. The clasp should face the back.
The Olive 100% Silk Bow can be looped around the front of the hat and tied in the back into a bow.
Our remaining hat bands have a small hook on one end. Starting at the tapered end of the band, wrap it around the hat. Once you get to the end with the hook, place the hook into the band to secure it in place.
I untied my silk bow and it's wrinkled. Can I fix it?
Absolutely! Because our silk bow is indeed 100% silk, the material is delicate and can wrinkle after being in one position for too long.
To return it to its original form, use either a clothing steamer or a pot of steaming water. Move the silk over the steam until it's moist and warm. Then, pull the fabric through your hands to relax the wrinkles. Allow it to air dry fully before re-tying it.
